The obesity rate in America is increasing every year and people are looking for ways to quickly lose weight. The problem with this is that losing weight can take time if you want to be healthy about it. It is going to be hard work, but there are things that you can do to lose weight in a week.

Eat several small meals each day because it increases the metabolism rate. Eating several meals also prevents you from snacking which is one of the reasons why people put on weight. You should also increase the number of vegetables and fruits that you eat. These foods are healthy and help to keep you satisfied.

If you’re frequently constipated, you probably aren’t drinking enough water. If you drink tap-water and you don’t have a home purifier, then you are consuming chlorine and other toxins that clog the digestive system and build up in the liver.

Get enough sleep. In an article from Health.com, courtesy of HealthDay News, Michelle May, M.D., author, Am I Hungry? What To Do When Diets Don’t Work agreed, adding, “When you’re tired, you’re less resilient to stress and other common emotional triggers for eating. When you eat to help you cope with emotions, you’re more likely to choose comfort foods like chocolate, ice cream or chips.” How much sleep do you need? Some of us need seven to eight hours per night; others need ten. If you are feeling sleep deprived, get a half-hour catnap if you can or go to bed earlier tonight.

One of the reasons that you may have hit a plateau is that you may be getting close to your ideal weight. The closer to this weight you get, the harder it will be to shed extra kilos. On the positive side, if your new lifestyle habits have become well entrenched you’ll also find it more difficult to put on weight, which means that you may be able to indulge a little bit and still stay at a healthy weight.

Eat lean meats. Go in for steamed, broiled or roasted meat. Never fried, as it adds to the calories and most of the nutrients in meats get lost due to cooking it in this method.

Often times, we look at a weight loss diet as a temporary restriction that we’re going to subject ourselves to in the hopes of achieving rapid weight loss. People typically don’t look at it as a permanent lifestyle change. The dieting restrictions make people miserable and eventually the unreasonable demands of the diet and the unpleasant daily routine, cause many to just give up and revert back to their old ways. The real key to losing weight is to make gradual changes in your lifestyle, changes you can live with and stick to. A successful weight loss program must be a way of life, not something to dread.

Rabbit Nutrition

Rabbits of different ages and different life stages have different nutritional needs. For example, the proper baby rabbit nutrition is important to prevent diarrhea and digestive upset. Feeding baby rabbits a food that is high in starch, from grain and grain by-products, or high in protein supplements, like soybean meal, causes these digestive problems. Young rabbits do not digest these ingredients well. In fact, scientific research has discovered that baby rabbits need a food that mimics their mom’s milk (i.e. high in fat) but that also adds fiber to their diet. This style of feed promotes healthy growth and feed efficiency as well and a properly functioning digestive system. Interestingly feeding lactating Does this same feed promotes milk production and is scientifically proven to increase the health of baby rabbits.

Pregnant rabbit nutrition is different. They require less energy in their food than growing babies and lactating Does. Also, because of hormonal differences, they will likely do better if the source of energy comes from carbohydrates like starch. They still require a high fiber diet but are better able to handle protein supplements and grains in their diet than younger rabbits.

Rabbit nutrition for adults that are not being bred or are not raising young is different from other stages of life. Simply put, they require a low energy diet to prevent them from getting fat. A balanced diet that is low in energy and high in fiber promotes a long and healthy life. This doesn’t mean that they can’t have any grain or oil in their feed because a little natural oil (from whole oil seeds) and chelated minerals promotes a healthy fur coat with a beautiful shine. The important thing is to make sure that the feed is designed for them. If your rabbit starts to gain a little too much weight because they are more docile than other rabbits then you can put them on a diet by supplementing their feed with grass (timothy) hay.

If you plan on raising adult bucks for breeding then it would be best to feed the same style of feed (low energy) that has a little natural oil seed and minerals like zinc proven to promote their reproductive performance. Rearing female rabbits (Doe) on this same low energy feed for months prior to breeding them will help stimulate their appetite during pregnancy and lactation. Scientific research has proven that this method increases the health of their young and helps promote a longer reproductive life of the Doe. Also “flushing” the Doe by feeding her a higher energy feed designed for pregnancy prior to breeding her stimulates fertility and conception.

Proper rabbit nutrition in essential for all stages of life!

What Happens To IBS During Pregnancy

IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is a chronic intestinal disorder, not a disease. The intestines of a person with IBS do not function properly which can lead to many symptoms. The most common include diarrhea, constipation, gas, bloating and abdominal pain. It is estimated that IBS affects as many as 20% of Americans, and affects women three times greater than it does men.

Depending on the types of symptoms a woman has, and the severity of her IBS, this disorder can be both physically and psychologically upsetting and cause plenty of anxiety. Some women worry that having IBS will affect their ability to become pregnant or cause problems during pregnancy.

Irritable bowel syndrome does not affect a woman’s chances of becoming pregnant, nor does it make her infertile. However, during pregnancy, IBS symptoms are generally worse than normal due to the hormonal changes a woman’s body experiences.

The following is a breakdown of what a woman with IBS can expect during pregnancy, and the different treatments she can try to help control symptoms.

First trimester – During this period, most women don’t feel the hormonal effects on their body, because they are too busy coping with morning sickness. At this time, IBS virtually disappears

Second trimester – As hormonal change becomes more apparent, IBS will usually strike. Women with irritable bowel syndrome will usually experience a stronger version of the symptoms they usually have.

Third trimester – Just as in the second trimester, IBS symptoms will continue due to hormonal changes. However, in many women, the symptom that is experienced the most is constipation, especially during the 8th month.

The reason constipation is the most common symptom is because pregnancy causes the levels of the progesterone hormone to rise. This hormone causes muscles to relax, which can result in the digestive system slowing down. Other reasons why constipation occurs are from lack of exercise, diet change, and the physical pressure of the baby on the bowel. Thus, even pregnant women who don’t have IBS are prone to constipation.

To help with constipation and other IBS symptoms during pregnancy, some women take medications. Not all medications that may be used to treat irritable bowel syndrome are safe for pregnancy. Therefore, you should discuss medical treatment with your doctor before taking any drug. However, the following is a list of medications that are usually safe to take during pregnancy:

o Acetaminophen (IE Tylenol) – helps with pain and discomfort

o Bentyl/Dicyclomine – prevents muscles spasms in the stomach and bladder and helps to relax them. It also reduces the production of stomach acid.

o Diclectin – helps with morning sickness

o Simethicone – helps to alleviate gas in the intestinal tract.
Medications are not the only answer when it comes to helping pregnant women treat their IBS symptoms. Alternative treatments include:

o Drinking plenty of water – prevents dehydration and helps with digestion

o Regular and safe pregnancy exercises – helps aid in digestion and reduces stress

o Sufficient sleep – reduces stress

o High fiber diet – Helps move slow bowels. This includes foods such as fruit, vegetables, and high fiber cereals. Note: keep in mind that if your IBS symptoms occur because of certain fiber foods, don’t include these as apart of your diet.

o Soluble fiber supplements – may help with diarrhea and constipation

o Ginger tea – Ginger tea can help treat morning sickness

o Hypnosis – This psychological treatment can be used to individually treat the symptoms a woman is experiencing.

As you can see, there are plenty of ways a pregnant woman can deal with IBS. The trick is to know what treatments work best, and incorporate them into a healthy and active lifestyle.

Introduction:

Breast feeding is an essential requirement for the child’s development after delivery. The planned breast feeding includes the time between the first approaches of the child to the nipples till the weaning period of breast milk. Usually, breast feeding that is well planned is very important for both the infant and the mother’s health.

The infant in the initial stages of development is completely dependent on the mother’s milk for its nutrition. This stage is very crucial for the proper development of all the systems in the child’s body. To accomplish this, the mother has to stay healthy. Bad food habits of the mother have direct effect on the health of the infant. The lifestyle and the environment of the mother are very crucial to produce healthy milk. A bad or polluted environment will cause the mother to produce unhealthy milk causing damage to the child’s health.

Wrong Diets of the Mother:

The mother who is feeding should eat healthy and stay healthy. The mother should have very nutritious food. Spicy food, Wine and other alcoholic drinks should be strictly forbidden. Having such alcohol or spice will cause the mother to produce less nutritious milk affecting the digestive system of infant very severely.

Thus the correct feeding plan includes positive thinking and having a balanced, nutritious and timely diet by the mother. It will greatly help in producing milk of good quality and quantity.

Breast Feeding Plan for six months:

The hormones in the mother make her produce milk only after two or three days of delivery. Till then the child has to be supplied with light barley water or lightly sweetened diluted milk. The child should not be kept starving. As the breast milk starts coming, it have to be fed to the child at short but planned frequency.

The breast milk should not be supplemented with any other food. Similarly there should be no other replacement for breast milk initially. Breast milk has antibodies that are the only protecting force available for the child against various diseases present in the environment. The nutritive value of breast milk is also high and balanced as per the requirement of the child. Breast milk has vitamins that are essentially required for proper development of the body of the infant. Amino acids present in the breast milk help the child accumulate proteins in the body, for development.

The timing of feeding the infant is very crucial. The mother is the ideal person to know when to feed as she will be able to judge from the child’s cry.

Digestive Capacity of the Infant:

The digestive system of the infant is very sensitive and fragile. The child will not be in a position to digest a variety food. The child at this point of time can digest only breast milk and nothing else. The stomach capacity of the infant being small gets filled easily. The process of digestion starts immediately. Care should be taken the child is not overfed.

The requirement for the baby is feeding at an interval of three to four hours. This gap is essential for the complete digestion of the previous milk. Such regulated and scheduled feeding process will also help to maintain a good bowel movement for the child. This practice will also reduce the child’s cry for milk.

Understanding the Child’s Cry:

The mother may have difficulties in interpreting the reason of the child’s cry. Many commit a mistake of feeding the child every time the infant cries. This is a very bad practice, as the child will be overfed. In overfeeding, there is the chance for some indigestion of the previous milk in the stomach causes irritation to the child. It will also lead to bowel disturbances. Thus maintaining proper feeding intervals and understanding the child’s cry is very important to the child’s health.

Guidelines for feeding:

As mentioned above the mother initially has to feed the child at an interval of 3 – 4 hours. Feeding during the nights has to be avoided. The regular timing of feeding should be maintained such that the last feeding is at 10pm and the 1st feeding is at 5am. There should be no feeding in the middle of the night.

When the mother happens to produce milk after the 6th month, feeding should be done only twice a day. In the mean time additional baby food formulations accessible in the market shall be given appropriately.

Obstructive Milk Flow:

It is very common for young women to feel obstruction in the flow of milk due to cracked nipples. In such a case proper medical attention should be given immediately without breaking the feeding cycle. Accumulation of breast milk will cause the milk becoming stale which is very harmful for both the mother and the child.

Harmful Effect of Alcohol:

In a case study, a mother who was in the habit having 2 or 3 servings of wine and occasional beer continued the practice even after delivery. But surprisingly the child and the mother remained healthy and the milk was produced till the ninth month.

It was then later noticed that the child started to develop a craving for the milk (addiction) and both the mother and the child had tiredness throughout the day, with inadequate sleep at night leads to a feeling restlessness, frequent headaches, negligent behavior, increased thirst, irritation and dry skin. Always the doctor recommends avoiding the consumption of alcohol, during the feeding months.
