All my life I have been a very active person, and also a trim and slim one. I have never had a overweight issue, in fact during my twenties I desperately wanted to put weight on. So I would do body building exercises, lots of them. They were very boring and very hard work, but i suppose we’ve come a long way since then.
Actually, it is more fun to lose weight than to try to gain weight!
Being overweight can contribute to numerous health issues. i.e: diabetes; heart disease; Joint problems and many more health issues.
Losing weight will dramatically help to combat all of the above. If you have never done so then it might be a good idea to go and have your bma. (body mass index), checked by your GP.
1. You must set a few goals – without goals it is difficult to achieve your aim in anything
2. You must actually want to lose weight. Shake away that inertia!
3. Visualize yourself as a new creation. Start telling yourself daily that you are becoming thinner.
4. Eat plenty of high fibre foods eg. fruit, vegetables, wholegrain bread, oats, and there’s a whole lot more. They will fill you up so you eat less.
5. Start doing things like having a new hair cut or hair-do. You will suddenly look and feel better, especially with this gorgeous weather we’re having at the moment
6. You need water!
7. I don’t know where you live, but here in UK there are many organizations that conduct a weekly walk. It is usually free. You simply turn up on a designated day, say about 10 O’clock in the morning to join the rest of the group and begin to walk through some of the most beautiful green areas of London, or wherever you happen to live.
This is definitely one of the most enjoyable ways of keeping fit and losing weight. If there are no organized walks in your area, why not start one? You’ll find this a great way of shedding those pounds, and also meeting new people!
You could also start a group cycling program for people wishing to lose weight in your local area by putting up adverts in your local community areas and doctor’s surgery, on their notice board. Do it now while the weather is so beautiful, and have fun losing those pounds!
Have you noticed how people who fast often are never overweight?
Also, people who go to church on a regular basis are hardly ever overweight. There is something about worshiping and prayer, it does seem to regulate the metabolic system.
One of the most shocking thing about the whole experience of being overweight is finding that none of your favourite clothes fits any more!

As you approach forty years of age and beyond the importance of exercise becomes even greater then when you were younger. Your body isn’t what it used to be and if you want to slow the aging process and live a longer healthier life then exercise is the way to go. Being forty or older is not the end of the world. If you start exercising, eating right and taking care of yourself now chances are you will live a long and fruitful life. If you discount this advice then consider this.
People who do a minimum amount of physical exercise and smoke or have high blood pressure have a lower death rate then people who do nothing. That’s right, as you get older, the less physical activity you do the greater your chances of having serious health issues and dying at a younger are. The more fit you are as you age the greater the benefit to your overall health and longevity.
Why is fitness when you are over 40 so important? Because research has shown that people who do not exercise are more at risk for heart disease. In fact, not exercising ranks right up there with smoking, high blood pressure and bad cholesterol as a major cause of heart disease. Going for a walk every day or even 3-4 times a week will significantly decrease your chances of heart disease. The important thing is that you get out and do some form of exercise. It doesn’t have to be a workout that lasts for hours either. Studies have shown how many exercise frequency is more important than how long you exercise.
As we age we begin to lose muscle mass, bone density, and strength. Exercise in general and resistance exercises, such as weight bearing exercise, in particular are great for slowing these loses.
Of particular importance is osteoporosis or loss of bone density, in women over the age of 40 because their estrogen levels are lower as they approach menopause. Although women are more susceptible to osteoporosis, men also need to be aware of its affects and take the proper preventative measures and nothing is better at preventing the loss of bone density than exercise.
So being fit and over 40 is like the fountain of youth. We all know that exercise is good for us, but the hard part for a lot of people is actually getting into that mindset and doing some sort of exercise program. We can come up with all the excuses in the world why not to exercise but the fact remains that following some sort of exercise program as we age can slow down that process and allow us to live longer and healthier lives. So join the fitness over 40 crowd and see how much younger you can feel.

Biological make-up and different character traits spell the difference between men and women. As although men tend to have more physical endurance and capacity than women, men have the tendency to neglect their bodies and consequently, their health. The male-female life expectancy gap may have decreased, but it is still a fact that men need to pay more attention to their health. Men are often at a disadvantage in some respects regarding health issues. Men are more inclined to smoke and drink than women. They tend to be more prone to work related stress as they often define themselves by their careers.
Men’s health issues are a global concern, and with the male to female ratio of 1:10, the male population is apparently lagging behind. Issues such as heart diseases, STD, erectile dysfunction, obesity, diabetes, prostate and colon cancer to name a few are rising to an alarming rate as men are becoming negligent of their health and are oftentimes more reluctant to seek medical advice. One of the common men’s health issues is prostate cancer. This disease is a common word of mouth among men as it is becoming prevalent. Studies have once concluded that lean men are more inclined to develop prostate cancer than obese men.
But recent researches found the contrary as it was later discovered that obesity can increase the risk of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is harder to detect in the initial stages among obese men until the disease becomes chronic and combative measures may be inefficient in the end. The best recourse for prostate cancer is still prevention entailed by an obliging diet and a healthy lifestyle. STD’s and HIV/AIDS are also two of the most alarming men’s health issues. As some men tend to have multiple sexual partners without the use of condoms, men are generally at risk for sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, herpes, syphilis and HIV/AIDS.
Men’s health issues on STDs are becoming a major concern with the HIV/AIDS-afflicted percentage on the rise. Obesity is also one of the widespread. Generally preoccupied with work and wedged to a sedentary lifestyle aggravated by smoking and drinking, men are also prone to obesity. As obesity consequently leads to other inauspicious health conditions such as heart diseases and diabetes, obesity is one of the men’s health issues that should not be neglected. Posing men at a higher risk for heart failure, preventive and combative means must be undertaken for obesity. Erectile dysfunction is also one of the most covered men’s health issues.
Also known as impotence, erectile dysfunction can cause so much frustration not only in sexual performance but in procreation as well. Erectile dysfunction as one of the men’s health issues may have physiological or psychological causes or can be a manifestation of other health conditions such as diabetes. With the social and cultural expectation of men being breadwinners and having complete responsibility over their families as well as keeping up with expectations for masculinity, men are more prone to stress and to engage in unhealthy lifestyles. Men’s health issues are concerns that men themselves should have the initiative to pay attention to.
With the significant imbalance on male-female ratio, it is no doubt that men’s health issues are becoming a major concern. Men’s health issues should be addressed to so as not to further deplete the male population. We all take measures to preserve diminishing flora and fauna. What more of the male species of the human race?
