P90x is one of the most popular home fitness programs of all time. I have personally purchased the system and have followed the program on and off for almost two years. I personally like the program and can honestly say that it is one of the best exercise programs I have ever used. But P90x is not for everyone. The program takes home based fitness programs to an entirely new level and could be too difficult or require too much commitment for some people. These are the 12 things people should know about P90X if they are considering purchasing the program.
P90x Works. The reason the program is so popular is simple it just works.
P90x is a serious workout and fitness program. It is not intended for persons of average fitness who are interested in gaining a little muscle or losing a few pounds. The program is designed to take someone who is already healthy and in relatively good shape to the next level by ramping up the intensity levels of their work outs.
P90x Requires Time. We’re not talking 20 minutes a day either. The program does offer a variety of formats depending on your fitness goals but they all take considerable time. You should expect the workouts to last just about an hour six days a week.
P90X Requires Some Basic Equipment. You will need some dumbbells or bands to complete the workouts. They also recommend a floor mat, pushup bars and a place to do pull ups. You can do without the floor mat as long as you have a good carpet. My wife never used the push up bars but I like using them since they reduce stress on my wrists and also help to improve range of motion. As for the chin ups if you don’t have a bar you can get one that attaches easily to a door frame or find a place to attach the bands to replicate the pull up motion.
Expect to do lots of pushups and pull-ups! Much of the P90x program is based on bodyweight exercises. In other words you use your body weight to create resistance in the form of pushups, pull-ups, squats and a whole variety of other interesting and creative exercises. If you don’t do pushups or pull-ups in your current routine you’re in for a tough time until your body adjusts. But don’t worry you will be able to improve your performance quickly. For example my wife was able to increase her maximum number of pushups from around 15 to over 40 during the 90 day program.
Don’t Expect to Finish The Routines Every Time. Like we said before P90X is intense. When you start out you shouldn’t be surprised or discouraged if you can’t complete all of the routines. You may be able to complete some of the routines but don’t be surprised when you run into a routine that’s just too intense or difficult for your current condition. The one that created problems for me was plyometrics it’s a 50+ minute jump training exercise that just wore me out. But I stuck with it and was able to do it comfortably by the end of the session.
Track Your Performance. P90x provides you with a log book to track your performance gains. Use it! The book is simple to use and includes everything you need to track your progress.
Follow a Healthy Meal Plan. P90x includes a complete nutrition plan with the program. It is well written and includes some good recipes. To get maximum results you should try to follow the program as closely as possible. But you can still see significant improvement with the program as long as you maintain a relatively healthy diet.
Try to Find a Workout Partner. You’ll have more fun and a better chance of success if you have a partner.
Take Your Picture. Take your before picture and stash it away out of sight until you finish the program then take the after picture and compare. If you follow the P90x program and eat a healthy diet you will notice the results.
Don’t Quit – P90X will Get You In Unbelievable Shape – But, you need to stick with the program for the full 90 days. If you miss a workout here or there it’s no big deal. The important thing is to get through the first ninety days. Once you’ve done that you can modify the program to meet your specific needs.
Have Fun! If you like to bust your ass, sweat and work hard then P90x could be the most fun you’ll have in a long time. If you enjoy the ride you’ll love the results!
Order the P90x Dvd’s - This is a great workout collection and you will be using them for years!
