With it’s built-in contact component, adding a contact form to your Joomla site is a very easy process. You can even create multiple contacts so that you can allow your visitors to contact multiple people. Using this tutorial will show you the proper steps to add new contacts and categories.

The first thing to do is login to the Joomla backend. This will be at www.yoursite.com/administrator.

Before we can create contacts we will need to create a contact category. By making use of categories you can easily group contacts and allow your visitors to choose who they want to contact. The first step is to go to Components > Contacts > Categories. The screen shows you an overview of any categories that already exist. Joomla comes with one category named “Contacts” by default. To add another category click on the New button in the upper right corner. There will be a form you’ll need to fill in. You can determine who can see the contacts in this category by setting the access level. If you have an image you want to show for the category you can also set that. Click Save when everything is setup how you want.

After the contact category has been created we can go add a contact. Select Components > Contacts > Contacts from the menu. This screen is an overview of all of the contacts you’ve already created. To create a new contact click the New button. To add the contact we need to fill in the form. You can link a contact to a user, then you won’t need to write in their email address. You can also add your mailing and other important contact data. Using the parameters on the right you can control what’s shown. Using the email parameters you can block emails or subjects you don’t want to receive. While rudimentary, this can help control spam.

Now we will need to add the form to the site so your visitors can use it. Go to Menus > Main Menu. This screen shows you all of the items already in your menu. Click New to add a new menu item. You need to select Contacts under Internal Link. Clicking Contact Category Layout link to add a form with several contacts. Clicking the Standard Contact Layout link will allow you link to a single contact.

If you go with the Contact Category Layout you need to add the Title which controls what is shown in the menu. You can choose the category to show under the parameters. You can also control a number of other parameters.
