When it comes to the Top 10 rewarding careers, nursing should most certainly make that list. With better than average pay and tons of intangible rewards that comes from helping people, there are few other professions considered as noble as this one. Many who choose to enter the field do so with their eyes set on a medical surgical nursing career to really capitalize on the benefits the profession has to offer.

Medical surgical nursing is a bit more specialized than many other areas in the profession. These nurses tend to require a little more training, whether in school, on-the-job or both. Those who choose to go this route should make sure they have a few necessary characteristics, however. These include:

* Endurance. Medical surgical nursing can be very demanding, especially when things happen to go wrong in the operating room. This means a two-hour operation could turn into a four-hour ordeal. A medical surgical nurse will be expected to endure the entire time, performing at the peak of his or her ability.

* Stress handling ability. While not all operations create high-stress situations, any could turn that way on a time. With this in mind, those who want to enter medical surgical nursing will need to be certain they can handle the pressures that might come along with the job. There’s no do-overs in the operating room.

* Willingness to take orders. While all nurses must be able to take and carry out orders, medical surgical nursing can present more face-to-face encounters with doctors than other areas of hospital work. Those who don’t mind constant contact with doctors thrive in this area.

* Ability to stomach blood. All areas of nursing come along with some sights, sounds and smells that are not very pleasant, but medical surgical nursing professionals tend to see it all – all the time. If a nurse is in the slightest bit queasy, this might not be the specialty for them.

* Willingness to take extra classes. Since medical surgical nursing is a specialty, there might be extra certifications involved, and extra course work, depending on the state in question. Since surgery techniques are always being improved, continuing education is a must for those entering medical surgical nursing.

Medical surgical nursing can be a fantastic specialty for those who like to really get in the center of the action in helping patients. The specialty is not for everyone, however, and should be carefully weighed before it’s pursued.

Will I ever feel like my old self again?

The time following pregnancy and childbirth is a trying one. A lot of mothers can attest to falling into some form of post-partum depression, milder in some, more severe in others. This mostly comes from the feeling that you won’t be able to recover from the whole experience. It is indeed difficult to imagine yourself doing your usual activities when you are sore from the childbirth, you have perineum stitches, you have a fragile little baby who seems to need you every minute, you are sweating all over, your stomach is sagging, your breasts are sore, and your tummy is full of stretch marks. But hang in there. Keep your mind focused on this thought: this stage doesn’t last forever. The answer, therefore, is yes, you will regain your old self. It just takes some time. Don’t be too hard on yourself; give yourself time. Most new mothers take months to regain their momentum.

Will my tummy flatten out again?

The answer is that it depends on what you do about it. Don’t worry; your tummy won’t stay the way it looked when you got out of the hospital. After giving birth, your stomach will look like it used to when you were six months pregnant. During the first couple of weeks, however, your uterus will start going back to its original size so you will see a significant reduction in your waistline measurement. However, it takes the uterus around six weeks to fully reduce in size, so expect more reductions within the first six weeks. Feel free to start exercising to help speed up the process though. After six weeks, if you still have a sagging stomach, the rest is up to you. Doing muscle-toning exercises focused on the abdominal area will do the trick, if you have the discipline and patience to go through with it. One tip, though: exercise and try your best to tone your stomach. It will do wonders for your self-esteem, and when you regain your confidence, it will be easier for you to completely bounce back from the difficult experience you’ve just been through.

Will my stretch marks ever disappear?

Yes, stretch marks fade over time, but there is no general rule as to how long the process takes. For most women, stretch marks fade in just a few months postpartum, while in others, the process could take a year or so. While you wait, just try not to worry about it too much. You can also try using creams or lotions that are said to help remove stretch marks; there are some products that are actually effective in lightening up those pregnancy marks. If they don’t work fast, you’ll still feel better if you know that you’re doing something about the problem than just frowning at the mirror.

Can I regain my pre-pregnancy weight?

Yes, many women have proven that this is possible, although majority of women don’t succeed. The answer, of course, lies in you. Although you will lose a significant amount of pregnancy weight during the first weeks postpartum, you will retain at least a portion of the weight you put on. As your body goes back to its normal state and as you resume your old eating habits, your weight will re-develop a life of its own; that is, separate from your pregnancy. Wait at least one month to let the pregnancy weight shed off on its own. If you still have a lot of unwanted fat to deal with after that, then it’s time to take matters into your own hands. Enrolling in a gym (if you have time) or doing home workouts will help you achieve your postpartum weight goals.

It is not only people who have spicy food or are tense who are affected by heartburn. It is very common with pregnant women. In fact with the progress of pregnancy you will find that you need the antacids more often but remember this is not connected to your heart. Have anyone ever wondered what really causes stomach occurences? Did you realise that most stomach conditions are not diseases at all, but conditions which can be ordinarily cured by using natural acid reflux treatment techniques and remedies.

The medical community would make you assume that only harmful drugs can relieve the acid reflux symptoms. This is simply not the scenario. Contemporary anti acids are, at most, a local remedy and they are fiilled with dangerous ingredients such as sodium and aluminum. PPI prescription drugs should only be taken for eight weeks, maximum. Then what are you to continue? These medicines only mask and hide the indications and have thousands of aggravating other conditions. They do not heal the disease! They do not cure you alright! They only convert the drug manufacturers wealthier at your cost!

I had to suffer from serious acid reflux. I got used to a PPI medicine. After many years of taking this drug, my condition became worst and I was told to triple the medicine intake. I began to get sluggish and tired. My vision suffered and my blood pressure increased. I realized that all of these were possible side effects of taking this PPI drug. I did a google search and realised that there existed thousands of realistic side effects. I was shell shocked and afraid at what I realised! I was damaging my body slowly and I really wanted to stop taking this drug! But when I tried to stop the PPI, the acid pumps, which had been shut off, went wild and produced more acid than earlier.

You’ll feel so much better, it will have been worth all the hard work. So please don’t depend on those “colored pills”. Yes, they are easy, but potentially dangerous, in the future. Take control of your own body and use natural acid reflux treatment methods.
