Eating healthy is a major factor in losing weight and keeping it off. The right types of food in the right amount will not only lead you to lose weight fast, it will also keep you healthier and lower your risk for illnesses such as diabetes. Starting a weight loss diet and making the right choices when it comes to food can be really tough. Most people’s busy lifestyles usually prevent them from taking the time to prepare the right type of food, and instead, just go to the nearest fast food shop and eat there.

When you make conscious decision of going into a weight loss diet, this means that you are choosing to cause a drastic change on your eating habits. This is sure to take a lot of effort and time on your part. You will need to spend time planning your diet, create healthier meal plans, and shop on a regular basis.

Going into a weight loss diet can provide other benefits aside from that of weight loss. One other benefit is simply becoming healthier. As the old adage goes, you are what you eat – if you mostly eat junk food laden with fat, salt, and cholesterol, you will most likely be more than just a tad bit overweight and, most often than not, living a rather lethargic lifestyle. On the other hand, if you eat fresh, nutritious food, you are sure to be more active and obviously – healthier. A good weight loss diet may also save you money as constantly eating fast food can cause a strain on the budget.

A good weight loss plan require planning, shopping, and of course, taking the time to make your meals. Here are a few things to keep in mind if you intend to start a weight loss diet:

 Plan

Take the time to think about what meals you want to eat. Remember to come up with the healthiest options for yourself. Keep a good stock of the basic stuff around such as vinegars, lemon juice, vegetable oil, tomato sauce, cans of tuna and salmon, canned, frozen or fresh fruits and vegetables, seasoning, and so forth. Create a system to keep track of the food you have and the food you will need to buy; keep it in the kitchen.

 Shop

Create a schedule – set a specific time and day to go to the market and limit it to at least once a week. Never shop when you are hungry and only buy healthy food. Shopping when hungry may cause you to binge and stray for your diet plan. Avoid purchasing junk food and other unhealthy food items. Keeping these items out of your pantry is tantamount to keeping yourself away from temptation. Use your grocery list and stick to it.

 Make Meals and Snacks

Choose meal and snack recipes that are easy to prepare and require a maximum of five ingredients. Keep a stash of ready to eat healthy meals such as yogurt, eggs, and fruit. When cooking, make enough for a second or third meal. You can save these for later on in the week. And try to eat at home as much as possible. Eating out may cause you to deviate from your weight loss diet.

You are dedicated, you are sincere and you are being set up for failure. The fact is that in diets do work and they can help you lose weight – that is IF they are set up correctly and IF you can keep these dangerous components out of the mix.

Killer #1 – Black Listed Foods

Have you ever been told that you cannot have something? Perhaps when you were a kid you were told that you cannot have the toy that is sitting within arms reach. If so, wasn’t that exactly what you thought of?

This is human nature, nothing becomes so desirable as that which is forbidden. And there is where out first diet killer comes on the scene. When you are told that you cannot have a particular food or food type you will of course want that food like never before. No sugar, candy becomes your equivalent of crack. No fat, all you see are visions of juicy steaks dancing in your head. Or worse yet, you are confined to only one food, say cabbage, all you see are steaks, and candy and ice cream.

Killer #2 – Slow And Steady Wins The Race

This is the conventional wisdom that has held people up for years. And it is a diet killer because when someone is finally ready to begin the battle with obesity the last thing they want to be told is that it will take years for them to get to where they want. The fact is that when obesity is a factor then losing weight rapidly is not only easy it is practically essential, both for health and motivation. Of course doctor supervision is advised, but there is no need to suffer through a measly pound or two of weight loss when far more is available for far less effort than the old eat less diets.

Killer #2 – No Pain No Gain

As if forbidden foods and slow progress weren’t enough to make a person stop dieting add to them the malady of suffering with hunger pangs.

This is a real nail in the coffin for most diets. The fact is that going on any diet is a change, and as you know well, our minds resist change. Throw in this stomach gurgling discomfort with a relentless barrage of hunger pangs and rest assured you will be visiting your local quickie mart for all things fattening and sweet. So in your quest for diets that lose weight the the last enemy is to avoid the specter of hunger.

People are always looking for a miracle diet that will magically cause the weight to disappear. However, they just don’t work. From the vinegar diet to the maple syrup diet, the fad weight loss diet has existed for a long time. The first low carbohydrate diet appeared in 1825, way ahead of Dr. Atkin’s time. Lord Byron popularized the vinegar and water diet in 1820.

Why is it that we always fall for these fad weight loss diets? Part of the reason, we want to lose weight, we want to lose it now, and we’re in a hurry to get there. We are looking for the shortcuts. Not only does it take discipline to eat right and exercise, but a lot of people find it boring and they grow impatient waiting for the results.

The problem with fad diets, is after a while, you just get sick of eating only one thing. You start craving variety or you want that sweet snack, and you’ve been deprived for so long, you just eat the whole bag of candy bars. A good weight loss diet plan should change a person’s eating and exercise habits for life, not just for a short time.

Not all fad diets sound ridiculous, in fact some of them actually sound very scientific. Unfortunately, the main reason a person loses weight on this diet is because of severe calorie cutting that occurs when a food group is practically eliminated. In fact, all fad weight loss diets have at least one thing in common. They have some sort of gimmick that cuts calories, usually to the extreme.

Another thing that fad diets have that a real weight loss diet doesn’t have is the “It sounds too good to be true” factor. Any diet promising overnight results is just too unrealistic. It takes time and effort to truly lose weight and keep it off. Therefore, if you hear of a diet that just sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t true.

Because a fad diet tends to eliminate whole food groups, the dieter is denied important nutrients. As a result, your health can suffer, you could become vitamin deficient, and it has even led to death in extreme cases.

In today’s society, it is important to be thin, in fact your success in life sometimes may even depend on it. Therefore, it is tempting to look for the quick fix. But just remember the old saying, if it looks too good to be true is especially true for fad diets. Even though it takes time and effort to achieve long term weight loss, this will work better for you than a fad diet.
